Thurlton Primary School recently welcomed our chairman, David Field, who took the time to introduce pupils to the art of photography.
The children were captivated by David’s photographs and the stories behind them. They enjoyed hearing how each picture was taken and where it was captured.
David’s passion and expertise have hopefully inspired the children to investigate photography for themselves as they grow up. Who knows, he may just have inspired the next generation of wildlife photographers.
Thurlton Primary is deeply grateful to David for his time and generosity in sharing his skills. His visit has opened up a world of creativity for the pupils, one that will hopefully continue to grow.
David has since received a letter of thanks, included below.
David has really inspired the pupils. He has made the children realise that there is more to photography than just taking a picture – the why, where, what. Children are now talking about background, light, angles. They are aware of the different types of photographs e.g. documentary, creative and this has given them a sense of purpose with their own photographs. All the pupils now want to go home, take photographs and experiment with the sorts of ideas David has shared today. Meeting David has had a really positive impact on pupils artwork and we are looking forward to taking his ideas forward into our Photography unit of work.
The pupils really liked:
- Seeing the photographs and the way David described how he had taken them and where.
- It has taught me so much about photography. I am now going to try and take black and white photos and be creative with colour.
- What interested me is all the animal photos. This has really inspired me to try and take some photos like this at home.
- I am going to experiment on my tablet now with editing colour and light and dark. I want to try zooming in and out.
- Seeing the effects and editing made me realise how you can change a photograph. It makes me want to take opportunities to take photos of anything, not just the same thing.
Thank you again for coming in today.
